The Ivans Estate Greenpoint Brooklyn (Ca 1900) Address 221(?) Eckford St. (Aunt Harriet gives the address as 121 Eckford st. on p. 3 and 221 on page 18) If you put the address into Google Earth, it will point to where it is on the map. If you click on "street view" it will show you the building that stands there now at that address. Based on the house and land of the Ivans Estate painting, several of the adjoining buldings as well as buildings and land in the back, were part of the original site.
This photo may be from the 1800's. The original appears to be a tin-type. It could easily be the oldest photo we have. Of course we have no idea as to who they may be, may not even be family.
Early 1900's Unknown---If photo 25 of this gallery is Julia, this might be a much earlier shot of her. Pure guess work here.
Unknown mother and child, presumably from Altoona, pa Only a wild guess though.
As identified by Aunt Gertie.
Daughter of Irmena Hoover, John Hoover's sister. Aunt Harriet identified her, but I can't remember what or if she said what her name was. Irmena Elizabeth Hoover was obviously named after this girls mother.
The name I have is Grandma Hoover, but she looks nothing like Grammy (Florence Ivans Hoover) at least not as I remember her and the oldest photos I have portray her. Perhaps she was quite young and chunkier then?
Aunt Mamsie- Who was Aunt Mamsie? On page 19 of Aunt Harriet's book she tells the story of how Her Great Aunt Harriet, for whom she was named, asked that she be called Mamsie. Aunt Harriet said she was told the name meant "mother" in Japanese.
Aunt Mamzie (seated?) and two other ladies. 1910? According to Harriet, (in her book) her great aunt Harriet ivans, a spinster, promised Florence Ivans Baker that if she named her baby after her, she would always take care of her.
